I really cant decide between these two, This will be my first 3d printer, I like open source of ultimaker but the zortrax print quality looks amazing. Some valid reasons for and against each machine would be great if someone could help me. Thanks!

How much printing are you planning to do? What will the prints be for? Does cost per gram or cost per print matter more than a small difference in print quality? What types of materials and items will you be printing the most? Each machine is great for certain use cases. The bigger and cheaper mankati is just as good for other use cases, a $350 prusa i3 kit is just as good for yet other use cases. Finding the right printer is more about matching your use case to the printer than finding the “best” printer.

Dear Janson,

i’ve tested both printers and both are great.

With an Ultimaker 2+ you are able to print every Material, only TPE is a little bit difficult. With an ZTC-200 and a ZT-HE Hotend you are able to print every Material with an Zortrax, too.

But in my opinion the zortrax is more reliable than UM2+.

So can you still get awesome prints using Z-Temp? Or does it just allow you to do it but not a great standard. The thing is I don’t really want to be messing around with my machine incase I ruin it. I think I’m going to go for the m200 then can expand to different machines capable of doing all sorts of exotics. Do you have any other recommendations of printers at the same standard of the m200 and UM2+ ?? Thanks

Hi, With a zortrax, a ztc -200 and a zt-he hotend, you are able to print every Material in Great quality. Moreover you are able to print polycarbonat. This is not possible with an um2+ Because you Must heatup the nozzle nearly 300 degrees C. My personal Favourite Printer are following: 1. zortrax m200 2. ultimaker Original plus 3. um2+ 4. leapfrog Creatr Hs 5. bq hephestos 2

Ok. Thank you for your help and advice it’s much appreciated

Hi @jason_manning

We just received two sweet M200’s and are totally in love with it! It was basically plug & play… The print quality is really nice. The Z-suite software is quite good as well but not very pro like simplify3d or even cura.

I personally also not really like that you have to buy their own filament, but on the bright side, it’s really nice filament.

We also have two um2+'s which are great as well! The glass bed makes seamless bottom layers, which you won’t get with the perforated bed of the M200.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,

Dom
