HI there,

today I started having this weird problem where the printer does a really loud noise mid print it only starts after about 20% of the print and it intensifies with time.

I recorded this video with the sound that I’m talking about you can hear it at 20 seconds.

I’m printing regular abs at a 0.09 setting.

To me it looks like the part warped from heat and possibly a layer separated resulting in the top of the part being warped. As the print head moves across the top of the warped part it strikes the in fill areas and produces the loud sound.

I can suggest using side panels on the printer. You can buy fancy ones or tape some clear plastic over the sides while printing. Also consider using a different material that is more resistant to heat warping on large parts such as Z-HIPS.

Nope, the part is not wrapped from heat, the sound comes from the printer, not from the printed part.

Thanks!

Maybe the guide rods are binding? Have you lubricated the guide rods lately?

Hey pixelophy,

It seems like your printer axis are slightly jamming so the friction causes an unpleasant sound and possibly shakes the printer a little. It also explains why it gets worse as the prints go on.

To fix this lubricate or oil the axis (metal rods) so that the nozzle can glide nicely round. I’d recommend you do this regularly as well.

Hope this helps. If you’ve got any questions just ask.

Yes! The printer is shaking a bit and it gets worse during the print, I will def make sure those metal rods are lubricated and do another test!

thank you so much!

That’s the first thing I’m going to try. Thanks

That’s good to hear.

Just let me know if it sorts it out or if it continues.

Your printer came with a small tube of silicone grease. I would try the grease that Zortrax provides. General machine oils may not be as effective.

This is the problem of 3d printer. you should lubricate it and have a rest.

Yeah, I did lubricate the printer rods, I did also update to the latest firmware, did a new calibration and I tried printing a different piece, and it seems that the problem is not there anymore. Printing more parts today, so will see how that goes!

Yeah I know, I have used that and it;s empty, I think I have to buy some more, for now I’m using general machine oil.

Thanks!
