Hello everyone,

Just yesterday my XYZ Printing DaVinci 1.0 stopped extruding filament. I know that only the 1.0A and above are compatible with PLA without a nozzle upgrade, but I found a site that said it wasn’t necessary. I had a cartridge of PLA, so I decided to try. But when I tried to load it, it wouldn’t. The extruder didn’t even pull the filament in. So I switched it out for a cartridge of ABS. The filament extruded while I was loading it, but when I started the print, it wouldn’t even extrude the filament. Not even the test strip. I tried re-calibrating the bed, but I still have the same problem. Now it is doing part of the test strip, but dwindling out at the end. Then when the actual print started, nothing came out. I had it calibrated around 245 (the calibration I found works best). I re-calibrated it again, but it still won’t work. The printer would just keep “printing” if I didn’t cancel the print. I am very disappointed. If anyone can help out, even just a little, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I own a Davinci 1.0 so I can’t be perfect with my response.

This does sound a bit like the issue I was having. Has your extruder started thumping or clicking when it fails to extruder during your prints? the extruder has to be kept cool just above the hot end (it sounds weird but it’s true) I had to upgrade the fan on my extruder to help keep it cool. I also believe bad filament can be a reason.

Also it might be good to clean your hot end thoroughly and make sure there’s no debris stuck in it that might be preventing the filament from flowing well, anything can greatly affect the ability to print.

Please let me know how things are going and keep us updated on progress so we can trouble shoot as much as we can.

Hi, Chris.

Just a few days ago fully took apart the print head. I adjusted one of the gears (it was loose), and put the whole thing back together. I got it to do half a print. Then it quit again. The extruder isn’t thumping or clicking, although it did once before I took apart the print head. In the process of taking apart the head, I had to remove the “Warning: Do Not Touch” sticker on it. This allows me to see if the motor is turning, and sometimes it seems to slow down. I’m starting to wonder if the motor is bad.

I’ve had the filament for a long time before this happened, so I don’t think it’s bad filament. I also cleaned out the hot end, and pushed a wire all the way through, so I don’t think it’s clogged. Just in case it makes a difference (which I don’t think it does), after I re-assembled the print head, I started getting error 0014; the machine was reading the temp of the hot end to be off the charts, 270°C, while it was room temperature. I managed to fix this, but I don’t know if it may have affected this issue. Thanks for responding, and I will keep tinkering with the hot end/print head.
