I need a chain 3-D printed. This basically has to be the world’s smallest chain. How small could a chain be 3-D printed but still be functional? Thanks so much!

What is the application for the chain? Is this a functional, load bearing chain, or a chain for a model, jewelry… etc. I have a Form 2 printer which can do down to .025 mm resolution. There is a difference between literally “worlds smallest” and just really tiny though, especially in terms of cost. I’d be happy to print/design a chain depending on your needs but the feasibility of 3D printing a chain depends on what your definition of small is, as well as the intended function of said chain.
It took me a while to find the dimensions so apologies for that. This chain needs to fit through a long rectangular box. The dimensions of the box are 4mm by 7mm so maybe the chain is 3.5mm by 6.5mm? Anyway, could this be printed? I would design the chain for you though so don’t worry about that.

How printable is going to depend on the dimensions of the individual links, specifically how thick each one will be, as well as the clearance between them.
Maybe it could be printed on the Form 2, but I’d take a look at Form’s print guide (http://formlabs.com/media/upload/formlabs-design-guide.pdf) while you’re designing. As long as it meets the design guides they set forth it should be printable! If you design something and send me an inquiry, I will review it and let you know if it’s doable, as well as what you could change to make it printable.
Thanks so much! I’ll keep I’m touch.
