Looking at getting my first 3d printer. I’m looking at this printer (http://m.ebay.com/itm/AU-warehouse-Geeetech-Pro-B-3D-Printer-support-5-filament-Unassemble-free-ship-/391428031961). Though not sure if the wooden frame is going to cause me pain down the track. If anyone could give me some feedback that would be great. Thanks

I would suggest a Tevo Taratula or Folger Tech printer, similar prices but quality is much better. Geeetech is really not the best.

Thanks, any chance you could link me to one? Main issue I’ve got is that I live in Australia and getting one that has a correct plug and power supply is difficult. But apart from the brand, is a wooden frame an issue? Thanks

Wood isn’t used in any new designs anymore. It warps and flexes and is not anywhere as good as an all metal frame. Even acrylic frames are basically obsolete. All respectable printers these days come with 2020 excursions or sheet metal or some other type of metal frame.

For power, almost all printers ship with 220v compatible power supplies, plugs may be a bit tricky but worst case you just have to cutoff the end of an IEC cable and use that.

Thanks, was kinda thinking that would be the case. Was looking at the Tevo Taratula, but wasn’t sure about the single rail set up. Will look into more. Thanks

Hi, I have a wooden framed prusa i3 from CTC. I’m gonna say that its not a bad frame but the only issue is that the bottom isn’t very flat and the machine does have some wobble which was reduced when fiddling with the y axis. I only paid £150 ($260 Australian) so the quality isn’t great but for what you pay, it’s ok for getting started. I am looking at rebuilding this printer with a steel frame later on but for now it’s been working fine for a few months now. (all apart from my extruder not working properly but thats got nothing to do with the frame!)

I was unsure on getting my printer as it was so cheap but I was actually surprised to see how good it actually was for so little money!

What I’m trying to say is I was encouraged to get a 3d printer by work colleagues and although I could have saved up more and got a better printer, I was happy that I got one when I did.
