Hello, I’m new to this forum and 3D printing so please bare with me.

I bought a Tevo Tornado and while learning how to use it I believe I plugged the nozzle. I my attempt to clear the nozzle I damaged the heater block. I’m now trying to install this replacement part (https://www.amazon.com/Nozzle-Printer-Storage-Makerbot-Creality/dp/B071SDSBSQ).

The part I’m stuck on is wiring the heater core and thermistor to the control board. Actually, I’m trying to splice the new wires with the original onces using some connectors so I can swap hot end assemblies more easily in the future.

I’m not experienced with electronics and there’s no labels on the wiring for the printer or the replacement part. Can someone point me in the right direction here? I can’t find anything solid via Google. Should I be looking for a wiring diagram? Can I figure out the connections by looking at the control board?

Thanks!

On the board where the wires plug in if you look closely you may see something to indicate if there is a positive and negative terminal pins. Maybe a little + sign or a 1 maybe to indicate the pin that would be the positive pin.
Usually if it matters the terminal on the board is keyed to the wires connector.
Usually black or white colored or striped wires will be a negative but it isn’t an absolute.

The thermistor may not mater as far as + or - but the heater may.

Just some general info and use at your own risk.

Thanks @wirlybird! I understand the risks of tinkering like this and I expect to spend some more money on trial and error. Is there a good way to test the thermistor and heater for this with a multi-meter?

As far as testing them with a multi meter you’d have to dig up the specs and that could be a challenge just depending.

Here is the pin assignment to the 8-pin GX-16 connector.

1 Heater
2 Heater
3 Thermistor
4 Thermistor
5 Part cooling fan +
6 Part cooling fan -7 Heat pipe cooling fan +
8 Heat pipe cooling fan -
