Trying to reduce my filament consumption. 50% or more of what I print doesn’t need much/any infill from a strength standpoint. However, I’m not certain how the print in the picture below could actually print with a mesh infill.

I’ve created a small hole to house a magnet. The image on the left is the layer immediately preceding the base of the magnet hole. The image on the right is the first layer of that magnet hole. As you can see, it’s a suspended circle with nothing supporting it below. I’m curious if anyone has experience printing something like this and would know if that is actually going to work, or if it will just create some spaghetti in the attempt.

It will depend on the material you use, how it can handle bridging, with PLA it will work for sure if you don’t try to print it fast. If your slicer supports tweak its bridging settings. The first layer might not be perfect but the second should came out pretty nice and flat.

I would recommend to use a CAD program to cut out that part from the model and make a testprint with it to see what will be the result.

Using ABS. I didn’t think to do a cross section with a test print. Thanks for the idea! I’ll give it a go.

I’ve found that I usually get spaghetti stringing but then the other layers build up on top of that, so depending on how many layers of that circle has it might print ok (if its thicker than 10mm it usually works for me).
