I got the monoprice mini select a few days ago and did the test print I was amazed how good the test print had came out i printed something else after it didn’t come out as good at all. I have chafed softwares and it still is bad compared to the test print. The cat is the test.

What are your temps speeds and material? Also what slicer are you using?

Mikey, look at settings for the test print and use those on your other pieces. That is assuming you are using the same material. Remember too that you bought a $200 printer so it will take some time to get to understand it. There are a lot of people who own this printer, so find the ones who are having success and ask question. YouTube is also a great resource.

Open the cat gcode file and copy the initial set up into your slicer as start code. Also, suggest joining Monoprice Mini Facebook group. Lots of help there, lots of sample files, tips, suggestions, and encouragement.

temperature 200 speed 1.0 . Material PLA and cura 2.3.1

Did you do the test print with Cura 2.3.1? Asking because several people have found that it was the cause of issues. I’d recommend using the Cura version that came on the SD card with your printer

i didnt test print with any of them i chose what was on the sd card and printed and then i chose the cura it came with which printed very bad so i switched to 2.3.1

Mikey,

At first glance it looks like the layer height is much different. You can pull the test print gcode and see the various settings in Cura, as Andrew_247 mentioned. Make sure you match those settings for your other prints with high detail and you should see some improvement. I have had some issues with Cura in the past, but I don’t think that is what is going on here. I have seen the MP do some pretty amazing things considering the price, which is obvious by the test print. Keep at it!

The gcode for the cat was probably created in a more complex piece of software, such as Simplify3d as highest resolution settings.

Clearly, the layer height was very small for the cat.

You need to mess with cura, getting a smaller layer height, and you need to mess with the speed and temperature (your temp is lower than the cat, I can tell by looking…) until you hit on the best settings.

Or invest in simplify3d. You will be very, very happy you if you do.

do you want slower or faster speeds

also how do you pull the gcode from it because when i go into cura, load, my sd card it says it is empty
