Hi guys,

I was wondering which slicing software most people are using. I have only used MakerWare for my prints and was wondering if the majority are using something different. I have read many great reviews about S3D but I am mainly looking for open-source and free software.

Slic3r is very common and works very well.

There’s a list of 3D related software here: https://all3dp.com/best-3d-printing-software-tools/

Cura works quite well for me.

Thanks! Just wondering, is there a difference between using slic3r vs. using slic3r through repetier-host?

repetier uses the same slic3r you install. I use slic3r to generate code for my XYZ DaVinci. The stock XYZ slicer does a poor job with narrow sections so slic3r became the tool of choice. I have used others but once you get the hang of slic3r, you stick with it! You can use slic3r independently of the machine control software.

another option you can do is use meshmixer to put in supports and then slice with makerware
