Hi guys!

I was just wondering when you are supposed to remove the printed object on the board once the print is done. I am very new to this and have only printed a few times but I always take out the object pretty much immediatly after the print is done and try to remove the raft (which is struggle with alot). Will it be easier to remove the raft if I left the object cool down a bit on the board for like 5mins?

Happy for all the help

Hi There!

This partially depends on which printer you are using and what build surface you currently have. In general, the more a print is allowed to cool down, the more time it has to become solid and the less likely you are to deform it while removing.

If you are using something like BuildTak, it is probably a good idea to remove your print while the bed is still hot (if you have a heated bed).

Glass and PEI surfaces have a sort of “self-release” property where once the bed cools down the prints are extremely simple to remove.

Also depending on the printer you might not even need a raft. Printing without a raft leaves a much smoother finish on the bottom of your prints.

As for removing the raft, I would recommend using a tool like a sharp knife or side-cutting pliers to get it off cleanly.

Hope this helps!
