Hi all,

I was curious what types of events you all organize and what works well for your community. Where do you meet? Do people bring their printers? Do you tinker or just drink beer and talk nerdy? Please share!

After a year of organising last minute, I thought it would be more relaxed for everybody when we have a schedule for the first part of 2015, so that’s what I made during x-mas break  Our meetups are always on the third tuesday of the month (easy to remember for people hopefully)

- January: watching the movie Printing the Legend

- February: Printing better: bring your own printer and print the same parts on different printers with different settings

- March: Company visit to Renishaw (metalprinters)

- April: e-nable: how to print hands and how can we join this project

- May: tinkering night

- June: how about intellectual property and 3D printing

Hope to hear from you mayors!

Nice!

Ps. We have a feature on the backlog which will allow you to create periodic / re-occuring events in one go. Will be a bit before we get this live though.

Ps2. Also, we aim to create awesome event content (like the filament workshop) at least every 2 months from now, which our Mayors can use. Hope that helps as well!

Cheers cheers

Hello @CharlotteJ (great name btw :))

On behalf of our mayor James and our co-founder Chris (who I think you met on the call the other day) I am going to respond. We just tried out a new format for our London event where we hosted more of a discussion and had relevant speakers who fit around a more directed theme. I think it worked well and the feedback seemed really positive, both from the community and press. We also live-streamed the event which was an exciting venture for us, we had lawyers, investors watching from the comfort of their own homes.

My only concern is that the events are starting to become more hub focused, perhaps this isn’t necessarily a bad thing but I think it is something we need to be aware of.

I like the sound of perhaps more relaxed events that you seem to host, getting out and about etc. I think ideally we would like to host a mixture of the two. Perhaps even ‘skype nights’ could be an idea where we video call another meet-up abroad and share ideas, thus making full use of the decentralised network that we are tapped into (shame we can’t send drinks across the network ;)…yet).

I have discussed with @Filemon that maybe it would be useful to have the ability to get a guest list, do you think that would be something you would equally benefit from? I also haven’t thought of a way yet in which we can add speakers and press to the RSVPs, ideally we want them to be part of the network but don’t want to push them too hard on signing up.

Anyway I could talk forever but I think as Mayoral hubs we need to do more stuff together so totally onboard with sharing ideas :). Your ideas are fantastic!

Kindest regards

Charlotte

Hong Kong: Workshop “How to build your own Mini Kossel Delta printer”

Hi there, The next 3D Printer workshop in Hong Kong just went online: https://www.facebook.com/events/450940555057136

It starts on March 22 for 3 Sundays and we currently have just two spaces left. If interested, please PM me!

Besides the workshop, we organize monthly 3DHubs meetups at our makerspace www.dimsumlabs.com

Cheers!

Marc

I agree indeed that the content we create for events should also be interesting for non-Hubs (maybe not always, like the Filament Workshop) in order to spread the “3D printing word”. I’m trying to set-up a Scanner party, or 3D Selfie, or 3D clone party to see if I can attract a wider audience.

Cheers!

Love the name of your space! As a FabLab we offer 3D print workshops as well, maybe I can announce them through the Meetup site as well if that’s ok @Filemon?

Agree, throught the Meetup website we also attract people without printers who are just interested. They are more than welcome of course! @Filemon I spoke to Simona about a Pumps&Printers meetup for girls only.

@CharlotteJ I have a concern about girls only meetups, might it only increase the gender divide?

Hi @Cinter, good that you are mentioning it. I won’t know. But do you know those situations that it’s just more or other fun when you’re hanging out with the guys? Same applies for us women  Sometimes it’s just fun to be with girls only.

Hi @CharlotteJ

Apologies for the misunderstanding, it is still Charlotte from Cinter (very much a women, well I’m pretty sure :))

Yes! Would be great, thank you!

@CharlotteJ Sure, feel free to use the Meetup for this is as well. The goal is to spread the word, even without 3D Hubs. Thinking about it again, we somehow need to see how we can merge 3D Hubs’ offline activities with thos of FabLabs anyway I guess… Will put some more thought into it

Haha, good to know Charlotte!
