Hey everybody,

just got a new problem with my i3 plus: the filament wont get into the extruder… its been

pulled in for about 1cm , but then it stops ???

anybody an idea ?

thanx

Have you tried taking the extruder apart? It’s quite a simple assembly to take apart but make sure the printer is off before doing it as the fan is very easy to break when it’s running. My guess is a piece of filament stick in there.

If not, let us know and I’ll brainstorm other issues. I’ve had plenty with my wanhao i3 but never anything I couldn’t fix pretty easily

If it is a blockage you will get a clicking noise as the material ties to feed, but has nowhere to go.

Could be multiple things man, blockage, the filament isn’t actually being fed into the hot end and just slamming against the entry hole. Take apart your extruder and see if you can identify the problem. If it looks like filament went in, try heating the unit and seeing if you can manually feed filament. If there’s a lot of resistance, you may have a clog.

You have a clog, you need to unscrew the 2 screws on the cooling fan then remove the fan and just leave it hanging, next take off the stepper motor but becaurful with the cable, you can disconnect it from the motor gently, after that preheat your extruder to 200 by going into tools then filament load and click load, when it heats up use the piano wire that came with your printer to stick it on top and push it in with force but not too much that can bend the rods or the plate, that should unclog it, of that doesn’t work then you are going to have to remote the nozzle, and pull out the PTFE tube, you do that by folding the heater block with a an adjustable wrench and a 9mm wean he on the nozzle while its hot, unscrew it pull out the PTFE tube and use the piano wire and pliers to hold it to unclog it, of the PTFE tube is ok re use it if it’s too burned or warped then you need to replace it, once you do that you put the PTFE tube o. The nozzle then screw it back and tighten it the same way you relived it by heating the heat block first, if you still have doubts on how to do it go to YouTube and search videos on unclock wanhao i3 and remove nozzle wanaho i3, hope this fixes your problem ?

Clogged nozzle or more likely stripped teeth on the extruder gear. Make sure you recalibrate e-steps if you replace the gear

I’d put my money on a filament jam.

As others have said, switch off the machine, unscrew the 2 screws at the bottom of the cooling fan (they’re long and go all the way through to the extruder motor) and have a look at the top of your nozzle. A pair of pliers should allow you to pull out any pieces of filament stuck in the extruder.

Here’s a link to a thread i made when i was having a similar issue, maybe you can find comments there that could help you out: Talk Manufacturing | Hubs

Hopefully this helps, let us know if you manage to sort it out:)

Thanks everybody, i took it apart as you said and found a small piece of filament… Everything is Working fine again !
