I’m printing a wheel with central hub. The central hub is a cylinder with a hole through it. The wheel unexpectedly broke and I see the entire central cylinder is hollow! I did not expect this. I created the design with OpenSCAD. Is there some condition which causes a solid object to become hollow during printing? I am certain my design is not hollow, as I view it from multiple angles, including cut planes to see the inside.

can you attach the STL?
What slicer do you use? if you’re using slic3r, check this out! you can change the slicing settings for part of your model (like making sure it does infill) with modifier meshes. it may be a good idea to make the infill 100% around fragile parts.
hope this helps a bit. If you upload the file I’ll take a look as well.

Most end user 3d printing software have algorithms to hollow any solids to save material. Cube Pro printers have a software switch to print solid.

If you set your infill settings to 100% you’re good to go. As @Daren points out, by default slicers will set infill to ±15-20% to save on material
