Hi everyone, I currently have a prusa i3 by sunhokey, but I want to upgrade to a new one, and build it myself. I would like to make my own, as I know how to use fusion360 etc, but I don’t have the time to do that, so I wanna use a pre made design. Looking on the web, I found two very good design, but I don’t know which one to build: The ultimaker aluminium (Ultimaker 2 Aluminum Extrusion 3D printer by jasonatepaint - Thingiverse) and the hypercube (HyperCube 3D Printer/CNC by Tech2C - Thingiverse). I’ve always loved the ultimaker design… If I could buy a printer, I would take it, but I cannot afford it for now. The hypercube is also a great design, it seems very rigid and the results that I saw are awesome, maybe (MAYBE) better than the other one. So, I don’t like that on the Hypercube the build platform is a lot smaller than the space inside the frame, there is a better version made by scott_3d that seems to be better at that, but still the carriages are big because they need to have the pulleys for the belt that goes all around the frame and gauntry. Also the gauntry is really tall so the bed cannot go much high. The ultimaker seems to be better: for the same outside dimensions it has a bigger build volume, but the print head is different and it would be difficult to replace it for a laser or a small router. The simpler xy gauntry seems great, I like it a lot, but I don’t know how well it will perform, as there are not a lot of videos about that build. There is someone that can clarify my ideas? Thanks
