From the Des Moines area, Considering getting into 3D printing as a business and hobby. Trying to do some research about it first. Any printer recommendations? all tips concerning 3D printing will be appreciated greatly!

I would start with a hobby, and nail the fundamentals down before jumping into a business endeavor.

Hi I’m no longer in the Des Moines area but I’d recommend the Rapide Lite 200 printer. I’m not sure what the delivery time is now but I got mine for $600 when they launched their Indiegogo campaign and it works better than most $3000 printers. Whatever you do I would avoid buying a MakerBot printer. Having worked there before I can tell you first hand their printers are not worth the trouble and do not work well at all.

Thanks for your reply, What fundamentals are you referring to? But yes i plan to keep it a hobby for a couple months.

Rob, looks like you got it for a steal! i found them on Indiegogo for double that! However it is still in my budget and ill add it to the list. I’m leaning more towards a printer/CNC maybe a BoXZY, any thoughts?

Many, many little tinkering things. You’ll get really good at unclogging nozzles, foguring out what infill to use, learning different materials, but most of all learn the fundamentals of 3d cad. Your printer is only as good as the designer behind it.

What software do you recommend? I’m experienced with Autodesk in particular inventor but see most use fusion 360. i also notice there is soo many options that are less costly.
