I have finally gone from a lurker and researcher (did most of you read thousands of pages and reviews before you got your printer?) to being a 3D printer user.

I was so excited, I bypassed the usual delivery routine at work and took the box directly to the desk (visible from my desk). Unpacking started immediately.

Packed really well.

Minutes Later:

It came with a free octopus. That almost walked off a few times.

An hour and a half later:

I work in an office with over 400 geeks. I think I saw them all today.

This was my first print to check out the printer. A cube at 0.250. I will do more cubes with different resolutions for comparison.

I have this community to thank for the fact that I knew enough to both design and print on the first try - sure it’s only a cube, but IT WORKED! Next: Marvin.

@RCole Awesome post! 3D printing indeed can bring the geek out of everyone! Everyone that sees my 3D printer turn into a geek immediately.

My boss is the one who decided we needed a printer and decided that I should look after it. I like this guy. He wanted a sample, so I turned this out for him in one hour this morning. Created in Blender and sliced in Cura.

Haha loved the geek bit. I’m still amazed you got to print with it from the get go! It is quite something!

I think it’s a great printer. Late yesterday, I re-calibrated the Z axis for 0.1mm and printed a Marvin. It finished before I had to leave, but he’s standing there waiting for me to remove him from the platform on Monday. He’s become the printer guardian.

Three prints in a row with no failures. All my reading and studying is being put to good use.

We have a competition at work to win one of four 3D printers and the competition is really heating up now that everyone’s seen one in action.

I expected things to go awry at some point and here it is:

0.1 Marvin and 0.2 Marvin looking on in horror at 0.25 Marvin…
