What is a stronger material? Colorfabb Bronzefill/Copperfill or Proto-pasta Stainless steel? Thanks so much!

@KyleFenn I’d suggest you to try it out  Why not? Looks like a cool project and I’m curious about the conclusion.

I used the @ColorFabb one quite some times and it’s pretttty sweet!

Hi - metal filaments are usually 20% pla plastic and 80% metal fill (brass, bronze, copper, SS etc). However, you also have to remember that they are 3D Printed, not machined or cast metal. i.e. they will have a 1-2mm wall thickness and the centre will be whatever in-fill is selected. Hence, the first few microns will look great as polished, shiny metal - but the objects themselves will always be quite weak. There’s not much mechanical strength difference between them. That said, I’ve been working with the Carbon Fibre / Nylon systems from MarkForged and it is very impressive - super strong.

Say I was to print a full scale iron man helmet in either material. I would have 3mm walls and 20% imfil. How strong would it be?

Is it for a “shelf queen” (sits there and everyone goes OHHH!) OR is it a functional cosplay item? In my experiences the stainless filament is a lil softer than BronzeFill which is VERY soft in comparison. That said their nowhere near as strong as straight filament because the metal powder takes up the space of plastic + it increases the heat transfer. All in all it isn’t like you can’t make a functional helmet with it, just be careful knowing it is more fragile.

It will be both a shelf queen and for a little cosplay. What do you think, will it hold up? Thanks so much for your responses.

Yeah, I just got to get the price down and make sure it will be strong enough because this will cost over $100.
