Okay so when I went to update my hub front page this morning it is not allowing me to save without adding specialities. I do not really have any (well ABS printing and timelapse video but these are not options) and do not wish to list any. Why am I being forced to put specialities?
I print on 3D hubs for the challenge it brings, for me it is not a viable income or a business, its just a way of meeting people with interesting ideas and helping them by printing things and sharing my knowledge. If I have to put specialities this will limit my orders to these types of things (which are quite arbitrary - why can’t we list anything we see fit as a speciality?)

Hey @DjDemonD, at the moment our system does require that you list at least one specialty. I recommend choosing something that has the closest fit to what you do, eg. post-processing, prototyping, consumer end parts etc.
Thanks for coming back to me and taking the time to write an answer but you have not addressed the issue at hand.
Why do we have to specialise? I am happy to print a wide range of items, and am capable of doing so. Your system knows the materials and approximate capabilities of my printers. When did this change come about? What is the motivation behind it? This will significantly affect the types of orders I get. I do not wish to be pigeonholed printing a narrow range of objects and I see no reason why I should be.
Also why are the specialities something you have determined? Who decided on them?
Why can’t I list timelapse photography, as a speciality?

@DjDemonD, specialties were introduced to give hubs a chance to differentiate as we have thousands of hubs on our platform. If a hub has a specialty, this in turn allows them to be notified when a user on Talk creates a thread with a tag regarding that specialty, and in turn, give them a chance to engage a potential customer. It also allows customers to find hubs that specialize in a particular area of 3D printing.
These specialties are based on searchable, common topics in 3D printing, e.g. prototyping, post-processing, jewelry etc, as well as feedback.
If you’d like to add a specialty that isn’t listed, there is a link for you to do that directly below that field in your dashboard. I hope this info helps!
Thank you and yes to some extent that makes sense. However I still have a problem. None of the specialities are sufficiently non-specific that I wish to assign them to my profile. I am happy to print anything and wish to print as wide a range of objects as possible. How do I proceed, as without choosing one or more I am unable to modify my profile.
I submitted an application to have time lapse photography added as a speciality but did not receive any information back from you.
Could you please consider adding “general 3D printing” as a speciality in that case. Or “I’ll print anything”.
