This is a message mainly intended for the staff at 3D Hubs, however other fellow 3D Hubbers are welcome to pitch in their comments, ideas, concerns…
It would be preferable if all new posts, threads, discussions, etc, are pre-screened and previewed before they flood the discussion boards, forums…
This new “888viag” spam threads are really annoying when trying to look through messages and discussions, not to mention they are off topic… And this is not the first time I’ve seen this happen.
I understand and realize that this may be a full time position, however the the benefits will greatly outweigh the inconveniences…
Thank you for your considerations…
“TOGETHER WE ACCOMPLISH GREAT THINGS”
“if all new posts, threads, discussions, etc, are pre-screened and previewed” seems like over kill to me. I prefer that 3d hubs keeps their overhead low so that there is no excuse to ever raise the service fee. I agree that this current wave of spam is ridiculous but I’m sure this could easily be filtered through some software tweaking, as it is only one or two accounts repeatedly posting.

Hello,
I agree with @MindFuLL. In the long run it’s good to have a few line of defences, e.g. limit the number of post per user per hour to 5, detect repetitive posts and so on. For system wide monitoring it is also useful to enable user based triggers such as a report button that notifies 3DHubs staff as soon as someone is posting inappropriate or non relevant content. Cheers.

3D hubs is supposed to be peer 2 peer, community, decentralized. Just add a flag button to the posts. If a post gets flagged as spam remove it pending review. Of an account gets flagged remove it. It’s also pretty easy to setup a keyword blacklist. Start populating a blacklist based on spam links and posts and autoban accounts and ips who post them. And lastly, offer whitelisting for active forum members. I’m sick of my links to 3d hubs site being moderated.
MindFull, 3DMuse, Maviator, all great points… This is the reason I’ve started this discussion… Something needs to be done. Unfortunately some few rotten apples spoils it for other good users…
with th this being said, I strongly agree with the Flag for removal button…
same me is true for user accounts, that are not completed or not being used… Just browse for hubs in any geographic location, you will find that there are a lot of hubs that are old and incomplete, have basic generic info, no reviews and no project pictures…
back to to the issue at hand… Moderation is good to some extent… I agree that too much of it defeats the purpose, and some level of moderation can be accomplished with simple filters and post rules…
a list of of known spam words, spam sites and spam users can be easily accomplished by filters much like email filtering is done…

I complete agree that some form of action needs to be taken. The flag ideas great and something definitely has to be done about incomplete profiles. I think that if users SPAM or ruin the site for others they should get a warning, like a soft ban, which temporarily puts them offline. If it continues action such as shutting down accounts may be used, however I don’t believe anything will get that far.
As a person who enjoys helping others and looking at new posts, I find it irritates if people just fool around.
It would improve most members experience if some form of action took place.

Hi Eugen,
We’re working on Hub verifications, also in part to remove or hide Hubs who have incomplete profiles or no verifications at all. This will clean up the platform a lot and improve the experience for customers.
As for dealing with Spam, as this is an increasingly more serious and annoying problem we’re looking into solving it ourselves. So far we were relying on external tools and plugins but nothing seems to really put a stop on it. Flagging is one of the methods we’re considering, however it looks as if these accounts are created by hand (simply looking at the user names) and not by bots, and keep on coming back (not a small number of users).
Really appreciate the help and the fact that you started this thread, will get back today or tomorrow with updates and timelines.
Hang in there!

Thank 3DMuse and @SOC3D, I agree on the multiple lines of defence, it does match up with our community approach. A I wrote above, we’ll take these things into account and come up with plan to take care of this once and for all. Your help is really awesome!
