Hello 'y all!

Im wondering about purchasing a Wanhao Duplicator i3 2.1.

Im especially curious at the starting things to keep in mind.

I already watched video’s how to swap filament, adjust dimensions for prints etc and watch some video’s but there is still some stuff unknown to me. Im going to mainly use the 3d printer for cosplay materials.

So i would like to ask some stuff, help would be appriciated!

1. Will i be able to print sharp edges like this photo? http://puu.sh/rAOfD/aface1b5ee.jpg

I made that up in tinkercad for a tail i have for a alien costume.

2. Is levelling something easy? Just place a water ruler/leveller on it and make sure its stable by adjusting screws on the sides of the bed?

3. Any other tips?

Thanks!

I’ve got the previous version of the i3. It’s an excellent printer for the price.

1. You shouldn’t have any trouble printing those parts.

2. Leveling is pretty simple - you set the extruder at its home position (which is a preset on the printer, just a couple clicks to get there), then use the bed leveling screws at the four corners of the bed to make sure that all four corners are just far enough away from the extruder tip that you can slide a piece of standard printer paper between them. Eventually you will probably want to add a sheet of borosilicate glass or something similar to your print bed because the aluminum beds can, on occasion, be warped and the glass will give you a flat, easy to clean print surface.

3. There are a lot of cheap, easy upgrades for the i3 that are well worth your time and an excellent way to learn your way around your printer. You can find them here, on Thingiverse, in the 3D printing subreddit, and just by Googling “i3 duplicator mods”. I have a collection of them on Thingiverse (here: Thingiverse - Digital Designs for Physical Objects), though it by no means includes all of the mods you can make.

not sure i understand your way of levelling. is there a video by any chance?

I’m not sure if this video is any good (I’m not in a place where I can watch it right now), but it looks like the process I was describing: WANHAO i3 LEVELING PLATFORM - YouTube

PLEASE stop right now and buy a Prusa i3 instead.

Can I ask why? Out of honest curiosity - I’m not trying to be difficult. What’s the benefit of a Prusa i3 over a Wanhao i3?

Which prusa i3 are we talking about . I am on the verge of ordering the wanhao i3 plus for £379 . Is the prusa i3 in the same price range .

The original, buy a kit and have full full control over the machine. E3d v6 extruder, to which you can add the new silicone boot that helps in many ways.

3 axis automatic calibration.

multi extruder upgrade available now too.

help the creator by buying from him, not from china!

The only good thing about the wanhao is the price… but at what price…?

What printer would you advise me to get . Bearing in mind my top whack would be £420 Cheers Andy.
