Good morning everybody,

Am i the only one to think that most hubs should raise their cost a little more ?

What would you guys think if 3Dhubs would control a minimum advertised cost such as a minimum cost/cm3 (example).

David

sounds like price fixing and not legal.

We have experimented with prices a bit with how it affects ranking and it does make a huge difference. If hubs could be split into two categories were one is for inexpensive “hobby” printers, and the other is for industrial or production grade printers. We would like set our prices so it reflects the quality but then lose customs who may just be selecting hubs based on price.

Isnt that what the HD category is for when searching for a hub?

I could be wrong but is that just dependent on the technology/material? Or is this a selectable option for hubs to enable? For example if you have a desktop SLA it is considered HD just like an industrial SLA printer would be.

What would be the point of having the hubs increase their prices? If it is to make more money it wont work, there will always be someone willing to undercut the set price. It’s how market price/value is set and is determined by the supply and demand for the product or service.

There is a natural equilibrium between what businesses want to charge and what customers want to pay. As a business (or a hub) if you arbitrarily set the value of your product too high no one will be willing to pay for it, on the opposite end of the spectrum if a customer wants something to be made for too low of a price, no business (or hub) will be willing to supply them with that service. There is a middle ground where both involved parties can work.

If the price is discussed on a larger scale by all of the sellers and it is determined that everyone wants to charge more for the service, that’s illegal as user @keebie81 said. This is to protect the consumer from businesses artificially inflating the price. Price fixing is probably the most efficient way to turn customers off to your service, especially if it is something they don’t actually need.

YOU can charge whatever you want. It’s up to you to get paid for what your time is worth, not the market place. That’s what my prices are based on more so than what others are charging. If someone doesn’t want to spend that much then I refer them elsewhere and they probably don’t need my skills or attention to detail. My time costs what it costs. Obviously you have to create value by building a reputation first and attract customers that match your capabilities but after that you need to decide what you are worth and stick to it or you will make yourself miserable, and that would be your fault not 3dhubs. I hope it stays this way.
Some of us focus on volume, some of us on quality or difficult prints, and some of us are into specialty kinds of prints. On top of all that this industry changes every day. Adaptability and variety is crucial to this platform’s survival and attempting to artificially fix prices would be detrimental to it’s growth and credibility.

My $.02, but I’m a capitalist so what do I know.
