Hi everyone, I am new to the 3D printing community. I am part of a Research and Development Team in high school working on creating a cup (preferably 3D printed) with some sort of pocket/compartment to add a scent medium. We call our project Sniff and Sip and it is a cup designed to hold water and use the scent to overpower gustatory (taste) senses with olfactory senses. This will aid people in drinking more water. My team and I really need help as we need a cup model! If anyone has any information, the help would be very much appreciated! Thank you!

Hi Alexa,
That sounds like an interesting project. What sort of scent medium do you have in mind? Will it be liquid or solid? I ask because I’m thinking about what would happen to the scent medium when the cup is tilted as the user drinks. Have you tested the idea yet or will the 3D printed cup be used for your initial testing?
Cheers,
Marc

Hey Marc, thanks for the interest! We are currently testing different wax mediums (solid) combined with a scent. We have tested the scent but we are looking to make a 3D cup to bring the model to a science fair. Any advice for us kids new to 3D printing? I’m having a lot of trouble getting started. Thanks so much!

Hi Alexa,
A great place to learn about 3D printing is the East Lansing Public Library’s Maker Studio. You don’t have to be a patron to come visit. It’s located at 300 MAC ave right in downtown East Lansing. There are six 3D printers, two 3D scanners and two CAD stations to use.
