Anyone ever run the Robo R2? I’ve seen a few test prints/videos that have me pretty impressed, but there’s not a lot of info out there yet. Figured I’d ask here and see what people think.
Particularly interested because I have a Prusa i3 MK2s kit due any day now, and I’m kind of wondering if the Robo actually has the finer resolution that they claim (20 vs prusa 50). Anyone used both? How do they compare? R2 has tons of slick features like the webcam, but I’m far more interested in print quality and reliability on longer prints.
I’ll be doing a lot of little mechanical type parts that don’t have to look pretty…but I’m hoping to get a machine that can also handle some really nice cosmetic prints for propmaking type applications. I know I’ll have to do a bunch of post process to get things that fine, but its worth a *lot* to me if I can cut down that work time with a nicer print right off the bat.
Thanks!
Printing anything at 50 microns is generally a waste of time especially with the stock nozzle. Now, going to a small nozzle then you may get more benefit from thin layers on small parts.
A lot of printers seem to over state their abilities when it comes to minimum resolutions so I would take it all with a grain of salt anyway.
There is a lot more to getting good detail on a print than just thin layers like calibrating, temps, speeds etc. So start with a good old .2 layer and get everything dialed in and you will be surprised at what you can do! Then work from there!
I don’t think you will be disappointed in the MK2s. With a little nurturing it is very capable! Enjoy!
