So, I have had my Makerbot Replicator 2 for about 2 years now with no problems… until recently. I was looking to print a quadcopter, and I even bought all the electronics needed to build it. However, the printer would not print anything. No filament would come out of the extruder, so I pulled the filament out and tried to put it back in. When I tried that, the extruder made clicking noises when the filament entered the extruder. Is there a reason why it is doing this? What is the best way to fix this problem. Thank You
Sounds like you might have a clogged nozzle. The clicking noise you hear is the extruder gears skipping on the filament as it tries to feed it through.
ciao controlla le ore di stampa probabilmente hai esaurito le ore di funzionamento che dovrebbero esse 6000 in questo caso devi cambiarlo ciao
Ok dont panic, try this becuase the same happened to me two days ago.
1- remove the motor from the extruder housing like you were to give it some maintenance. Make sure you clean the hobbed screw and clear the feeder out of any filament.
Heat up the hot end to 245•C and get yourself a cleaning tool and from the other side of the hot end at the tip plug the cleaningtool push it
after cut a piece of filament and stick it in the hole and push if nothing comes out pull it out and repeat on the other side with the cleaning tool. ( use needle nose pliers to push the filament) it helps for it not to bend. Try this a few times until you feel that the filament run smooth and comes out. Then push a few more strings of filament until it takes little of your effort to come out. These machines I recoment removing the filament if you are not going to do any work on them for a while.
Easy fix, make sure your using good quality filament. When that happens to me it is usually because I bought some super cheap junk off of eBay. Clean the extruder gear maker sure there is no plastic imbedded in the teeth making it smooth. Heat it up around 230-240 take a little piece of filament push it down in hard and then pull out fast. Sometimes there is a little black peice of burnt stuff stuck to the end. Clip of the end of the filament and try again a couple times till the filament comes out like its suppose to. If that doesn’t work, use some of those small cleaning drills on the nozzle. If you do not have those then pull off the nozzle, heat it up with a lighter or a candle while holding it with a pair of needle nose pliers, then take a needle or safety pin and dig out the plastic inside of the nozzle till the tip of the needle is poking out of the nozzle. Another quick solution if you have another nozzle sitting around just put that one on and throw away the old one. Another reason I have gotten jams before has been because I ran out of filament and then I tried putting a new roll on right after and there is a tiny little piece sitting the way and so it is not pushing the filament through the hole. Just pull the top half of the head off, heat it up, then pull the little piece of filament out. And that should fix the problem.

Check youtube for several ways to fix this and check your filament sources. This seems to happen when filament is eposed to high humidity. Some types absorb more moisture than others.
We’ve made a video specifically about this problem. We hope it helps! Replicator 2 Nozzle De-Clog
DI’d you ever change the nozzle anytime during the 2 years? I ask because a few weeks ago I had the exact same problem.
