Hello Everybody,

This is my first thread, so please be kind to me ;-). This seems to me as a very friendly community, so I thought, lets ask it here.

I am totally new in the 3d world and the last week I have read a lot here on 3d, Youtube etc.

Now I have bought a second hand Prusa I3 and when I bought it, it worked fine, because I noticed myself.

Even at home i have printed one object, even a second one. But the first one was better.

I have Repetier software and a the slicer is Curaengine.

The man I bought it from give me some config files for the filament and the printer, which I imported.

But now I have changed the filament from white in black and the printer does not print. And that is not why I bought it!

I have checked if the new filament is fitting well and when the extruder becomes hot, it gives a black thin filament line.

But it looks if repetier is not shows the right temperatuur of the extruder. It stucks at 60 degrees and kept waiting. When i pushed finally the emergency stop button, the temperature was suddenly 200 degrees.

Can it be the usb - cable?

I have tried all evening, have even installed cura, but from there I could only make a gcode file. I have imported that fill in Repetier but it just doesnt print anymore.

I can move it manually.

Pffffff… i hope you understand my writing.

Is there anyone who can tells where to go from here? Because I have ordered a LOT of filament and I want to print it all by myself. I just felt in love with the 3D printing and don’t want to give up so soon.

Excuse for my English, hopy you will understand and help me!

Thanks a lot!!!

Margriet.

Did you make sure to get black PLA and no other material, like ABS or XT? Different materials have different colors so you need to get the information about what material you’re printing. How did you set the temperature on your i3? Do you have an LCD screen connected or did you use your PC to control the printer? Did you change anything about the wiring at some point? Maybe mixed up some sensor cables?

Thanks for your reply MB3D!

The filament is what the owner has given me to use. He said he only print with PLA.

But to be sure I can replace it with the white PLA i have a little piece of it. I will do that and let you know.

I use repetier to set the temperatuur. I have a laptop connected with a USB-cable. The cable is the only thing, which was not with the printer, so I got one from my husband.

I havent changed anything about the wiring at some point.

Maybe the wires have disconnected after they got loose during the transportation? Do you use a heated bed and or dual extruder? When you set up repetier at your PC do you see a box in which you can write commands to the printer? Above this there should be the previous command displayed, can you read anything, that says “disconnected” or such? Can you move the motors (except extruder) by typing in “G28 XYZ” or “G1 X10 F50”? Lastly I would advise you to type in the command “M999” then wait for a few seconds and try again (don’t restart!!) if that doesn’t help then you’d probably have to re-install the firmware on the printers Mainboard.

Hi MB3D,

I tried to replace the filament, but the filament is stucked into the printerhead. I have warmed it up to 200 degrees, but I dont get it loose, also there is no filament streaming out of the printerhead anymore. :frowning:

Can I pushed it to far?

I think the not starting has to do with the temperature not become 200 degrees.

When I choose now start printing, it makes the movement, but it is not flowing filament.

I pushed the temperature manual to 220 degrees.

re-install the firmware? I am a beginner, not that far yet.

Thank you for trying to help me!

Well with marlin firmware, this sounds very much like a thermal run away problem. It is by design that the printer shall cut off all heating and stop printing when it senses that the proper temperature set point is dropping and can’t maintain the set point. Most likely this is caused by loose wiring. Either terminal not screwed tight enough or thermistor became loose and report wrong temperature

Hi StephenC, thank you! I dont have a terminal on the printer, I use a laptop with Repetier.

So can it then be the usb-cable which connect the laptop to the printer?

I meant terminal of the power supply that your printer connected to

Oops… my husband told me just before i read this.

Sorry!!!

you won’t be able to pull or push the filament manually without heating the nozzle aaaaand pull the spring lever back with your thumb and index finger so the filament is now free to be pushed and pull

I am printing again. @PilgrimsDT and @bgreenslade for helping me a big THANK YOU!!!

I have tried to remove the filament Stephen told but that didnt work.

My husband has opened the extruder and took out the filament and placed it back. That’s why I married him!

I have now the white filament in it and it is now printing. So that’s fantastic.

But when I print, I print only lines, there is no file. The slicer Curaengine is also very quickly finished.

Tomorrow will come my new filament, perhaps it is that.

But does anyone knows how I get in repetier some extra lines to adhesive to the printing bed?

Thank you all!!!

Hello Margriet,

What kind op 3d printer you have??

The important thing for a good 3d printed piece is a good slicer and good software… you might consider to buy simplify3d it’s the best en fastest software on this moment on the marked.

yes its cost money but you can see you can adjust everything so good and easy…

greetings Tom
