Dear all,

‘recoating aged deposition layers in resin vats’ (replacement of silicone layers) has been a topic in various talks in closed and open blogs, already. Again, we’d like to bring that topic to you, also because we like to face honest feedback and discussions to repair solutions, such as the ReCoat Kit, straight from you as being experts in dealing with SLA printers. DruckWege developed the ReCoat Kit to allow an easy DIY repair of the vats with the support of precise dosers and high quality materials. We raised this topic also again because we are part of the user and service provider scene, like you, who regard the operation and maintenance costs as a crucial factor for SLA printing. If you are also interested, we are keen to have this discussion and an open view from your side on the above topic, to ReCoat and other solutions.

Talk to you soon,

DruckWege

Can you make a video of the workflow repairing the resin tank ?

Hey StudioK,

yes we are on it. Actually we are waiting for some samples from one of our potential packaging supplier, so we can demo the workflow with the tools you will than receive. But you can have a look on our Kickstarter video which at least covers the whole process schematically.

we would like to have your feedback on that. Thanks!

Hey Studio K, we have also an FAQ set-up on News - DruckWege and the KS site

I have seen it.

It look all so easy, thats the reason why I want to see the video.

About the pricing,

If its all so easy as it looks, In my oppinion you pricing is still a bit over the amount I want to spend for a solution that aims for a cost reduction. With the 2/3 of the price to buy 4 new resin tanks I’m wondering if I want put this extra work and time to save 75 euro.

Eitherway, It is a great product.

Looking forward to see the video.

Good luck,

Hey guys, could you share the KS video in here as well? Cheers

Just a quick question on the pricing. Where are you based? since in europe/germany it’s not that easy/cheap to get a new resin tank. you can end up spending up to 100€ for one, depending where you are sourcing from.

We know that we have to go down with the price, but for now with a “small” order amount we don’t have that much lever on our sourcing partners. If it gets traction I think, we’ll can go down with the price, we didn’t anticipated it that it appears to be that expensive, since our expenses on new tanks were much higher.

Although, please consider: the silicone we use is top notch quality also we provide a “primer” which grants better adhesion of the silicone to the vat, so it won’t tear of by “accident”. We decided intentionally against, low quality silicone for the kit since we are dedicated to quaility. But maybe if we get more feedback similar to yours, we will consider an alternative source of silicone.

Thank you anyway, your feedback is very appreciated!

Once again us, sorry for spamming you. But we really wan’t to make a product which is usefull and economically sensefull. We’ll try to find some way to further reduce the price. Till then we unlimited the early bird packages, since its for us at the moment the lowest bar.

500g (which should be a little less than 500mL) of Sylgard 184 costs $50 + shipping (in the US at least). We have a brief guide on doing it yourself on our blog:

Hey MadeSolid,

thanks for your reply. We are aware of that, but at least in europe there is no easy way to get your hands on Sylgard (even for us). But as your blogpost and guide shows, its quite a bunch of work to do to get your mixture done, this is one of our main advantages: it comes all preset and in a convenient dosing package. So you don’t have to have the hassle to set it all up yourself

I think it comes down, as always, how much are you willing to do yourself? We thought it’s already a hassle to keep your resin spills to a limit, why bothering with another chemical? We will release a video very soon, where you can see how much less hassle it is to use our kit compared to do everything by youself

What your blog post doesn’t mention, at least as far as I can see, is whats about the primer? We had pretty poor results on adhesion without a fitting primer. Which means the new coating was quite fast loose on the vat. With the primer we actually got a better performance as with the original coating.

We would love to hear more from your long time experience in doing the recoating procedure.

SNEAK PEAK

we are waiting for our samples to arrive. But our pouches will look like this:

so you can mix it in the bag, which means it’s, always the correct mixture, clean, no bubbles, no particles or dust. We are eager to show you our dosing pistol, which is supposed to mix it on the go, like you’re used to from 2 component glue sticks, just bigger

Well done, It look easy !!

Hey folks,

we managed to work out a special coating for ReCoat to reduce sticking and pulling forces between the deposition layer (silicone) and the print model. The coating is designed to match ReCoat, also to be applied DIY. ReCoatTop will be added to the Kit if the stretchgoal can be reached during the campaign. The added value can be find here and here.
