It’s since a few orders the rating system is driving me totally crazy. It looks like all hubs get 5/5 stars constantly. People order something, and give 5/5 instant. At my hub people always give like 3 stars for print quality. Like what th f*ck? I’ve seen the print quality of some hubs, and allot of times it is bad quality, but they all have a 4.9 rating with 50 reviews, they gain more orders, and I’m standing there with my 4.4.

It just feels like such a bad system. Print quality can be so bad, but people give 5/5 because they can’t compare. How am I ever going to get orders this way. The big always gain more and more, but the beginning hubs just cant progress.

I first thought 3D Hubs was cool, but I fully changed my mind…

Hi @AndreasDesmedt,

Maybe this talk post could help you out: Talk Manufacturing | Hubs

On a side note, print quality matters but it’s also the whole experience that could let people change their mind, it could also be a matter of perception, maybe someone ordered a 400 micron print at your Hub and they thought the surface would be flat. It’s good to advise customers like that and say that a 400 micron print will not have a smooth surface. (This is just something that just came to mind, so I don’t know if it applies to you.)

When you really think a review is not correct and it really affects your overall rating, you could always contact the Hub support of the order.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Dom

Agreed! I had one customer the other day who game me 3 stars for quality because he said he expected 300 microns PLA to be smooth to the touch and glossy. I’ve got 11 reviews and before this my average was 5 stars. It’s small, but this one annoying customer took me down to 4.9 because he doesn’t understand 3d printing. It was his first ever order too!

This is a common one. I get this all the time. You can send out the best 300 micron print ever but sometimes it is rated as if it came out of an injection mould.

You could try having a sale to gain more orders leading to more reviews that could raise your average score.

Judging by the tone I get that you’re frustrated, but print quality isn’t always a pure reflection on the quality itself but often the hub as a whole. I’d recommended being as professional as always with your customers, but most importantly be honest! Often times people will appreciate it more if you are honest with your flaws and let them know openly ahead of time. Also price range is a big factor, if people expect to get a sub par print, as most people who don’t understand 3d printing do, paying a lower rate are often very surprised and pleased with results. Try to always remain as professional as possible and always put the customers first!

Unfortunatly at the end of the day the customer has the last word as is the case most places - You can be as communicative as you want, but if that customer doesnt feel its good enough in his head he’ll give an average rating especially those less knowledgable in 3D Printing.

An Example - I had a complex print recently come though - I completed & cleaned the print & let the client know the print was ready & uploaded images at every stage. He acknowledge the images and compliemnted the quality suprised how well it came out - He picked up around a week later.

All seemed happy and I awaited his feedback - he has since reviewed and gave a 4 star review for print quality (it was his first hub order) but all other services were 5 Star and I think this is down to the mental image of the perfect 3D print with no lines.

The Only thing I can think to do is upload some more images to my hub - and label the resolutions for clients reference so they have an idea of what these items come out like - as Steelmans said they expect injection moulded finishes which is just crazy…

All we can do is keep going, Keep Smiling and trying to help in anyway we can bacuse the next Client is always round the corner
