Dear 3D Hub members,

I woke up this morning with GREAT idea! How about helping me pull off a Huge Random Act of Kindness for a sweet 18 year old girl, Taylor Lieber, who was just diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer and only has a couple of weeks to live unless a compatible bone marrow donor is found (which is highly unlikely). Here’s her story:

NOTE: “DS” refers to Duodenal Switch, a weight loss surgery Taylor’s mom and I have in common.

POSTED JUNE 19, 2015 by Tammy, a best friend of Taylor’s mom…

I know this is OT but I want to see if you guys would be willing to help support a fellow DS’er in an extreme time of need. Lauren had the DS 11.5 years ago and she’s my best friend. Her daughter is on her 10th day of intense inpatient chemo and after completing 25 days, she will need a bone marrow transplant. Without it, she will die. I feel so helpless. The only thing I can think of that might help lift the spirits of this family and Taylor in particular, is a card campaign. That’s why I’m coming to you guys. I’m asking you to send greeting cards to their home so Lauren can bring them to the hospital and they can read them together. I have details of the story below. I’ll post their address in a separate comment so it doesn’t get lost in this post. I know you guys are a very caring and supportive bunch of people. That’s why I’m asking here! Lauren Borkon Lieber’s 18 year old daughter, Taylor Lieber desperately needs our help! When she was 15, she was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma and she won that battle. Now, about 1.5 weeks ago, she was diagnosed with AML Leukemia which is a blood cancer. She needs a bone marrow transplant. Her brother had a 25% chance of being a match but he’s not. Please join the registry! It’s quick and painless. It’s just a cheek swab. Please share this with everyone you know!

I’m an old friend of the family from when I lived in Minnesota. I currently live in Texas. I’m terminally ill myself. I’ve been a dialysis patient for 2 ½ years and was literally on my own death bed just last month, so I know what her and her family are going through. When I started dialysis, I discovered and started 3D printing as a hobby to keep my engineering mind active and challenged. I have a Rostock Max Delta style printer. Unfortunately it’s down right now in the midst of major upgrades (new controller, water cooling and multiple nozzles) and I won’t have it up and running any time soon. BUT If I could, I would print her something, a heart, an angel, a cross, or anything fun, cool, or interesting that would lift her and her family’s spirits in this very sad time. I’m sharing Taylor’s story with this wonderful 3D printer audience to help me with a Random Act of Kindness, by sending Taylor something special, printed with your 3D printer and note with your thoughts and prayers for her and her family.

Tränendrüsen-Briefe (engl. “Charity Hoaxes”)

I do have the correct link. my apologies for the first, The link I copied was accessed via my email, so that’s why it didn’t work.

This post came from “Jonischkeit”, but when I respond, it replies to Marvin@3dhubs, and then it’s signed by “Michael”.

Whoever you are I really don’t appreciate you responding with the insinuation that this talk post is some sort of Hoax! I’m real! l used my real name and posted a picture of myself with my 3D picture. I have known Tammy, Lauren and her daughter for years! We can all be found on facebook and linked in. Please refrain from posting responses that undermine peoples random acts of kindness without any facts or proof of your accusations.

Here’s my Facebook page: Redirecting...

and lastly, here’s the link to Lauren and her daughter’s Taylors Facebook page: Redirecting...

See for yourself, we are all real, and so is Tayor’s terminal condition.

Thank you, Rod Kennedy.

Dear Rod,

Please apologize. You are the one out of 1000 that is real. And I was too fast. Additional the link does not work.

I really get a lot of such letters forwarded from (real) friends and community members trying to do a kind act. And really all of them turned out as fake or extreme old. There are so many that www.hoax-info.de gave up to collect them and just wrote the text I copied in my answer.

So again, please apologize me.

Also I don´t knew what does not work at 3dhubs with my adress. Now I will take time and write a letter to Taylor from abroad.

Thank you

Michael Jonischkeit (also real name and real person)

Michael,

No worries, apology accepted. I’m sure that her and her family will appreciate your kind thoughts and prayers. Boy it’s a tough position to be in and be going through. My heart goes out for the entire family, it’s almost surreal. And it’s hard to know how to respond irregardless of how close you are because you know how devistating it is and how inconsolable they must be. Being terminally ill myself, I’d suggest aiming for a smile in the here and now. When I did that my thoughts went to my 3d printer and how much I enjoy the things I print with them, cause let’s face it, it’s really cool. I could image Taylor spending time looking and feeling and enjoying some of things I print. That’s why I decided to share her story here. I can’t print right now, but I decided to send her some snowflake pattern tea candle holders I had previously made, along with some tea-candles. I’ll try to attach a pic. Rod Kennedy

Please dis-regard this Talk post. The family has communicated there wish for privacy during this time. ~ thank you. Rod Kennedy,
