Overview:

The beauty of 3D printing is the ability to create useful and/or complex objects at home or at the office without resorting to a large assortment of tools. While it’s not always the fastest approach, it’s very convenient to simply start the print, and then come back to finished parts a few hours later. The great potential of 3D printing is giving people the ability to make useful items in the convenience of their home and office.

For this contest, we challenge you to show off a useful, functional print. It can either be something mechanical and consisting of multiple printed parts, or a simple printed part that is assembled onto an existing item (example, a door-stop block mounted to a door so that it props the door open).

Judging:

Winners will be selected from the top 10 upvoted entries. Final judging will be by /u/Ubermeisters and the sponsor, based on usefulness, creativity, technical merit, appearance, and overall wow factor. Judging will favor original designs created by the submitter, but functional prints designed by others are eligible. The key thing is to show off functional prints that highlight the possibilities and utility of 3D printing.

Rules:

  • One submission per post.
  • Post as often as you like.
  • Submissions must include direct links to images (or image albums).
  • Winners in the past 6 months of contests are not eligible to win.
  • Prints may have additional post-processing or non-printed components used to complete the item.
  • Entry must describe the details of the print to adequately allow someone else to reproduce the item.
  • Source files must be disclosed.
  • Proprietary items are not eligible.

Prizes:

First-prize: $120 store credit at ToyBuilder Labs

Second-prize: $80 store credit at ToyBuilder Labs

Third-prize: $40 store credit at ToyBuilder Labs

Timeline:

All dates are subject to change, based on availability of the persons involved with the schedule and scheduled actions.

I recently switched my region from Boston to Manchester and back to Boston when I realized promo material I have still uses Boston in the link. This back and forth has caused an issue it seems.

Any admin feedback would be helpful if someone reads this.
