Can any one help had been printing on y QIDI tech 1 dual extruder using formfutUras wood fill cedar printing batches of baby groot for friends. I ran out and bought more and reloaded it and for the life of me i can not get it to print.

I contacted the manufacturers as the product seemed quite a bit different texture wise. They sent me more and it is doing exactly the same extrudes less and less to nothing by layer 3.

I have noticed that it dosnt seem to be pulling it through properly.

My question is has anyone else used this or similar if so any tips. Also is there a way to tighten the fillament feeder to grip better.

Please help

Hi there,

I’ve found that woodfill (and other filled filaments) is prone to clogging if you use a .4 or smaller nozzle, I’d recommend trying a .6mm nozzle. You’ll loose some detail, but in my opinion it’s worth it for a more successfull print.

I have pondered that I’m just baffled as the original batch I had was fine but the later 2 I received was a lot coarser and varied a lot more in thickness. As for clogs it unclogs straight the way if I loosen it off and push it in a touch too.

You can print fine with a .4 nozzle. The main thing is that you need to keep the filament moving so it doesn’t clog up. Think of it like a drain and you are putting rice (the wood particles) down it with water. If you put to much rice for the volume of water it will start to back up and then clog.

The particles in the wood filament are the same. They need to be able to flow through.

So, temp is important and so is speed. Print fairly slow maybe at 30mm/s. Also watch out for retraction. Do not get to aggressive with it. Wood can string and you may not be able to do to much about it so don’t obsess on it!!

Start with a .2 or higher layer with a max of .32 for a .4 nozzle.

I have had good luck printing Hatchbox wood. Not real choices in colors but it is pretty good to learn with.

Also Google it, there is a lot of info on printing wood and don’t just take the first article. Read everything.

Hi wirlybird cheers for your input I’m getting smoother extrusion but I’m sure it’s to do with the feeding as even when I do the filament loading it slows down to a trickle but kicks back in if I give it a nudge

The QIDI tends to load filament very fast so getting the extruder stepper clicking isn’t unusual.

What I tend to do is let it load until it complains then stop it for a few seconds then start again and repeat until I have extruded what I want and it is running good. Main thing is I don’t force it.

See that’s the thing it’s like it can’t pull the filament through ie the clicking which I have had before but now it just stops. I have just turned retraction off and touch wood ? I’m past layer 3 so far…wait no stopped again. Dam it

I am certain it’s the filament I adjusted the settings numerous times started to get good results set to print but stopped half way through then fused to the entry chamber as I unloaded it had to do a total strip down. What does anyone else think these are the 2 batches in the picture attached the lighter one is the original the darker rougher one is the newer one. I’ve emailed formfutura just awaiting a reply to see what they suggest

I see your pic and definite difference in the filaments.

My thought is to maybe raise heat a little to help it flow and keep slowing the print speed to see if things improve.

This filament may just not work with the nozzle size.

Suppliers have suggested it maybe my printer and to try a larger nozzle too so I’ll see how I go. Cheers for your help much appreciated

If it doesn’t want to do it then a larger nozzle will probably be the answer. Their latest batch of filament may have larger or more particles in it.
