Hey all!
I recently upgraded my Prusa i3 extruder to a MK8 unit from Geeetech. I calibrated the extruder and did a couple test prints. The first (picture 1 right side) didn’t turn out too bad, but as you can see the top section printed badly. It was attached, but broke off very easily.
After changing some settings, the second (picture 1 left side) came out better, but the top section had the same problem. I have printed this many times, before the upgrade, so it’s not a problem with the file.
Cura settings
Some info: Printing in PLA with a .3mm nozzle, .9mm walls, .8mm top and bottom
Temp: bed 70 deg, extruder 210
print speed 50mm/s bottom layers 30mm/s
fill 25%
Any ideas? The lower part (left) turned out really good, not sure why it went bad after that.

Maybe try printing at 200 degrees with bed at 50? That may help because it seems like something on it is curling up. I’m probably wrong though.
Do you have a fan cooling the print?

Not yet, my old mount wouldn’t work. I’ll try it with some sort of print cooling, see what happens.
I was wondering about the nozzle temp too. Time to play with more settings!
Well thats the problem. You need a cooling fan for pla. Thats why the small section turned in to a blob of plastic

Yup, that was it! Time to design a new fan mount. Thanks!
Your shells are too thin, I normally print with 1.6mm on top and sides, that’s also why you can see the infill through the top
Thats not it. It was there was no fan being used. I get perfect results with a .8mm top and bottom and .5mm sides

Both would solve the issue since the plastic is warm it can be changed easily so either add more plastic aka increase thickness or cool it. Also I don’t recommend have thickness soo thin it makes models very brittle. Also didn’t realize this was so old oops.
