as the title states the wood bed carriage (y carriage) has warped on me… I attempted to put bed levelling springs between the wood and the bed to compensate for the carriage… The problem now is there isn’t any clearance underneath and my manual levelling screws hit the bearing blocks under the carriage. I simply put longer bolts and replaced the spacers with springs… Does anyone have any experience with upgrading the bed on this machine? It seems to have warped only after I installed the heater to the bed (go large is ambient bed from manufacturer) any advice on what to replace the carriage with or a way to modify mine to fit the longer bolts required to have levellers on my bed.

i can post pics after work…

and thank you in advance for any advice

You are going to have to print or lasercut new parts. You can improve the design by printing some new parts on thingiverse just look up 1405 mods. Or if you want to go stock printrbots designs are open source and you can have the parts you need lasercut.

Heat will definately warp the wood. Take a look at the printrbot play heat bed- delrin rod ends with an aluminum plate screwed to them. I can laser cut, but the wood will warp again

Thanks for the suggestions, I was thinking to replace the entire carriage with thicker plywood or acrylic, but was hoping someone had a better suggestion than replacing the entire carriage… I cannot see a way to modify the existing carriage to have the space required for the levellers.

I do do however have much more clearance between the bed and the carriage, originally only about 1/2 inch of clearance now with springs is well over 1 inch so I should be able to insulate the bottom of the bed and keep the wood/acrylic carriage cooler

I Don’t know about the old simple, but the play is just plastic blocks that go over the end of the rods, and the build plate screws to the top of those.

This machine is the 1408 model go large

600mmx300mm build area, the upgrades listed on thingiverse for the 1405 look like they are for the simple… Not the large

This machine is the go large, it has a wooden carriage that sits on the rods with the build plate bolted to the top of the wooden carriage

Where are you located? And can your laser table handle 26"x26"? (Rough size)

Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Oh yeah, we have a massive Trotec laser. I can’t get to it for 4-5 days; on vacation. I thing the fee is around $20 for setup, and then $15 per hour. Don’t quote me, I may be wrong. I could probably cut the entire machine in less than 40 minutes.

Sorry, it’s only 39x24".

That might work, I am in bc Canada so shipping might be a problem, but I think the size will be ok, I need 3 pieces cut, one is approx 25x24" other 2 are 25x3"

i will will see what I need, have the dwg files at home

Thank you to everyone for your suggestions!

i have solved my issue with the warped carriage by adding springs and adjusters between it and the bed to compensate, the bed is now within 0.05mm tolerance in flatness across its entire length. I had hoped for good results but am quite surprised at how easy it was to level this thing on 6 points…

i may may eventually replace the carriage but for now this seems to work great, I am running tests prints across the bed and everything looks good so far.
