Any idea what’s happening? My makerbot replicator gen 5 with a smart extruder keeps doing this

Take the spool out of the printer and put on an external spool holder in front of the printer and make sure it turns freely then run a test print. If the same thing happens then it’s time to get a new nozzle.

Check the diameter of the filament in several places over a long run to see how consistent it is.
What temps and slicer? Also I would contact makerbot to see what they say.
