I am trying to get a makerbot thing0matic working.

I couldnt find the correct software to use.

when I plug it into my make it does not show up at all.

any suggestions.

You want replicator g for slicing, although you can use simplify3d, but you need some clever settings, which you can find in the group.

You will want to upgrade your firmware.
