Oh dear. What happened there?

I think one of the thin tall sections hit on the extruder during a rapid move between parts, knocked it, caused a clump of material and everything went downhill from there! Nothing a little z hop won’t fix, still frustrating thought!

I usually use a z-lift on movement, mainly to avoid marks on top surfaces, but it can also help avoid such things, as you say.

It’s things like this that scare me about long/tall prints; I did one the other day that was 150mm high but only about 35mm square at the base and the last few cms were nerve-racking. I can’t imagine what it must be like to wait for something huge from the large volume printers…

I know what you mean, theres nothing worse than seeing it all go wrong after hours of printing and theres nothing you can do about it other than learn for next time. Nothing worse than giving in and hitting that stop button!

I can watch the print and have it look at the lcd to make sure temps are ok. Of course you have to have your phone at your beside and check it through the night! :slight_smile:

Kind of low tech compared to Octopi with a camera though! lol

I was looking at having installing something like this. Apparently octopi will run on a pi zero which is just £4 so I think I’ll set one of these up when I get some time.

That’s one solution… But personally I Use octoprint not only can you use a webcam to view you can also monitor temperature and stop it if necessary

You forgot some support for the handles, this was mowing while contact with the nozzle/filament

This has all been re-printed successfully now thankfully. There was no need for any support. I added a z hop and everything worked fine.
