Hi to all!
My name is Gareth and I am extremely excited about the world of 3D printings applications and endless possibilities available with this amazing technology. I really would like to get involved within this industry and any advice on where to start would be greatly appreciated. Aside from learning to use programs like CAD and sketch up, is there somewhere I can further my knowledge on whats involved? I’m not sure if this is the forum to search, but I’m trying everywhere I can
Thanks to those that can help me
Kind Regards,
G

Hey Gareth! Welcome! I’d take a look at some Autodesk’s free software tools - You can do a surprising amount of work with basic design software like Tinkercad. You can also spend days reading through the RepRap wiki.
Lynda also has a really good intro to 3d printing web series. Hope this gets you started in the right direction.
Hey Gareth! Yup! We’re all excited about the technology and where it’s going. It might be an idea to get in touch with hubs in your area and offer to help them with their work. I’m sure there’ll be at least one who could use a willing pair of hands and an open mind. I know I’d leap at the chance.
Cheers!

Hi Gareth,
you could visit a hub and take a look at a 3d printer.
I don’t know where you are living but maybe you can find a Colorfabb + 3dHubs workshop near you. There you can get in contact with owners of 3d printer aswell as Colorfabb officials. 3d printing is their job so i’m pretty sure they can help you with nearly every question.

HI Gareth
welcome to this great 3D community !
For a first sight, fablabs and makerspaces are the place to go. There you’ll see printers in action and get smart tips about. Regarding 3D modeling/CAD software, I would advise 3D Slash www.3dslash.net : efficient, fast and fun online-offline solution. Have a look to our How To Talk Manufacturing | Hubs for easy training session (in 3 steps and less than 15min).
Cherry on the cake : you get direct link to your favorite Hub when you’ll need to print
Enjoy and don’t hesitate to ask if support needed
