How do I get started in all this? Do I need a 3D printer, or can I get someone from Think. Print 3D to scan the object to get printed? How does this all work?

Your dealing with a complete newbie to all this so 3D print lingo may throw me off a bit. I’m looking to make a mask design for project I’m working on. It’s all my design I just need to get it changed a bit. Sorry if I’m not more into this stuff.

Is your design digital or physical?

First you need to decide if 3D printing is the right option for creating your object. What is the object and what it will be used for. How big does it need to be? Is durability a factor? Heat a problem? Does it need to be food safe? etc.

From there we can give you a better idea of what process to go about creating the object. 3D printed or not.

Typical workflow = idea/design > digital model > 3D print

If you need to replicate or modify an existing object = scan real object > modify digital scan > 3D print

Give us some more info and I am sure someone would be happy to help.

If you have a model, it would be as simple as sending on the 3D hub and having us print. If you don’t have a model, we would need to generate one and print for you. You could also 3d scan a part you already have.

It’s like a Phantom of the Opera, Mardi Gras mask that I wanted to redo without starting from scratch. Scan > digitl modify> 3D print is exactly what I was thinking. I was told PLA would be good for this project. My main issue is where do I go, and is this project outside of my skill, and budget.

Physical.

Where would I go to scan? Do I need a scanner? Sorry for the novice questions.

Yes, you would need a scanner. Otherwise you could mail the part and we could have it scanned.
