I have a Prusa I3 Rework printer and one of the z-axis motors is spinning in the opposite direction. I know the polarity is correct because it has been working right for a while now, and also earlier in the day. What it is specifically doing is when i try and home the z-axis (or move it in general) both motors will spin in the correct direction first and then a second or so later one will change direction. The only change that has occured since the last print is the position of the printer itself. I just slid it across the desk, making sure no wires were pinched or disconnected. I noticed a grub screw on the coupler of the problem motor was almost falling out and a clouple were loose but after tightening it I still had the problem. PLEASE HELP!!!

You physically moved the printer and now one of the z steppers is, sporadically, spinning in the wrong direction? It doesn’t always spin the wrong way just after initial movement? I’ve seen printers moved and a z stepper wire come loose or even the crimped plug get damaged to one stepper which cause the motor to intermittently stop spinning. It sounds like a wiring issue is the first place to look. An easy way to diagnose, replace the z stepper cable completely. If that isn’t an option try plugging the problem stepper into the y axis stepper plug and test movements to see if it works or fails. If it works it’s a wiring problem, if it spins backwards after spinning forwards it’s a stepper problem.
