Hi all

Let’s imagine I have an object which has to have a hole into which a tube needs to be inserted. However, each time I print the object the hole will vary slightly because the tubes are not always the same size and not always perfectly round.

How trivial/difficult would it be to add this hole every time I print the object - can one scan the tube and then add the negative to the object as a hole?

Please bear in mind I have 0% experience at actually printing - I have a concept and would like to know if it’s possible/how it works.

Many thanks

Does it have to be exact fit? you can have a hole with moving teeth around it for different tube sizes so you don’t need to change the model every time.
That would be great if you could upload some photos of what you have like the tubes and the object.

Hey dfod,

With the object that the tube goes through, if you were to have a large hole then you could print out different ring sizes and insert them into the object. Each ring would have a different hole size in the middle, which the pipe would go through. Then you would have to keep modifying the object.

Just let me know if this would work for what you had in mind. Some pictures or sketches should allow me to help you further and with better understanding of the idea.

Hope this helps.

This would be easy enough to do.

Design the model.

Measure the tube.

Design a tube model.

Subtract it from the model.

Print it.

Each iteration would take 5-10 minutes to create in even the simplest software.
