I wish it was my event- I was just the speaker
I’ve encouraged the organizers (awesome local library staff) to get in touch with @toymaker2. They’re also interested in having some 3D hubs promotional material on hand- who would they contact for that?
The talk was targeted at a mixed audience of beginners to intermediate users. Those who attended included some printer owners, some who had used the Library’s 3D printers, and some who recently discovered 3D printers.
The rough content was:
* introductions
* ice breaker game (3D Printing Bingo!)
* model tweaking prep tools (123D Make, MeshMixer, NetFabb free)
* design tools: CSG vs mesh, apps: 123D design, Sketchup, FreeCad, Blender
* key to successfully owning/running a printer (calibration!)
* upgrades you might want to plan for your new printer: better slicers (Cura, Slic3r, matter control, simplify3d), enclosing your printer, dedicated embedded computer (e.g. octopress and astroprint), extra limit switches, all-metal hotends, auto-bed levelling
* safety
* quick outline of the education/maker space I’d like to open in my community
They have speakers tentatively scheduled until December. Attendance was good (20+), especially as it was the first session, and some of the promotion got lost in all the other things going on at the library right now.
If attendance is good through to December then there’s a good chance it will continue in the New Year.
Thanks for asking
