Hey guys, I just wanted to post something that I think is pretty cool. Many people worry about their build plate size confining them to that one size. I dont see that. I like to make big models from my printers. I make it in sections and then glue, weld, lock, etc them together. This is one of my latest models, check it out and let me know what you think! The link below sends you to my blog with more pictures. I will be adding a video soon.

Nice! What kind of printer do you use and what is the largest model you’ve built so far?
Yeah! What kind of material did you use for these parts they look so smooth in this picture!
I have two Makerbot Replicator 2 and one Replicator 2x. Each one has minor tweaks to them.
I have made a 4.5’ long model. Took me a good long time for that one. Here is a video of it. https://youtu.be/CI0hKt5qFY8
All different through out the model.
PLA for the big parts, ABS for smaller parts that maybe needs HIPS filament to dissolve away, igus iglide tribo filament for the parts that move and touch each other. Soon I will do testing on the magnetic filament. I want to see how strong it is and if it works I will then incorporate it into the models.
I use bondo and XTC-3D to smooth everything out. It also strengthens everything up!
Hey, guys sorry about the old link. It has changed to this one.

Cool project
Glue can do the trick.
See beneath my own maquette of a piping installation.

Looks great! Did you paint the parts after? Or is that just the material? They look very well finished
Sweet model. I like the people.
What at do you mean, glue can do the trick?

Yes, I painted the parts after. All my customers don’t want the layers to show, want it their colors, and the models are so big that I have to do it in sections. Bondo and XTC-3d helps to hide all these things. Then I can paint them whatever color I want.

I just mean, by mounting parts together there are so much more posibilties for 3d printing.
Wow, this looks really awesome!! Would you be willing to do a separate post about this - is it a commissioned project, how many parts is it made of, size, which printer did you use? Let me know if this is something you’d be interested in. Cheers

Hi @gabriela3d,
Thanks for your intrest! Didn’t expect that this would be interesting for the community.
It looks like quite a laborious undertaking, I’d certainly love to know more about it! Keep us posted
