I’m presently wanting to mechanically test the results of my 3D printer and I’m wanting to learn from what other ppl have done. Thus does anyone know of a site or forum where people mechanically test their 3D printer parts and share the results? Thanx for the help.

Hi @Pegg, not sure if this is what you’re after, but in terms of testing your printers, I strongly suggest these:

Hope this helps.

Hello,

Thanx for the help. Second link is closer to what I’m asking for. Also wanted to find out if ppl have done material testing eg tensile test, compression, shear…

thanx once again

Campbell

Hey @Pegg , Check out http://my3dmatter.com/ , they’ve done some different mechanical testing on a few 3D printing materials

Hey Campbell,

last time I checked there are a great number of papers available online that deal with mechanical properties of printed parts. One of the biggest problems with this however is the print orientation dependency of the test samples. Also each filament may have slightly different properties, especially with stuff like Colorfabb’s PLA-PHA with their proprietary blend of “11 herbs and spices”. So watch out when trying to compare your results.

If you are looking for raw numbers to compare to, the MDS (material data sheet) of the material should tell you about the mechanical properties of the material. However Colorfabb (again) and Taulman are the only manufacturers that I’ve ever needed that information for and managed to find it on their websites. For others you might need to dig a bit deeper. Keep in mind though that those numbers are not necessarily obtained by testing actual printed parts but by some more traditional means. The ISO number listed on the sheet should tell you more about the exact procedure.

I hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Jonas

Hello Jonas

thanx for the help. I’ll follow some of these and see what results I get.

cheers

Hello

i looked through the this but I have not seen any material tests. Just dimensional testing or build tolerances (all very useful though). Do u guys show the values u get and under which test procedure?
