I’m kind of Marvin crazy. I wanted to share a Marvin lamp I came up with. I printed it on my Lulzbot TAZ 5…I wanted quality, so it took 40 hours! Tell me what you think. I’m thinking of making some out of porcelain if anyone wants one. Very glowy and cool.

awesome!

I’m glad my fellow Marvinites like him!!!

I’m getting some interested in a limited edition of these lamps in Porcelain. They will be hand slip-cast in unglazed white ceramic thin enough to allow light transmission – just like the plastic one (from which the mold will be derived!) but even more durable and elegant. I threw up a quick form on my blog to let me know if you might want one - just to express interest at this stage, I need to see how many people might want one.

I might but a couple questions. Unglazed - so could my local ceramics person to some coloring or other stuff and glaze him?

Any projected cost yet?

Probably. I will find out from my ceramics friends. It would have a high quality sintered-smooth surface so it wouldn’t look rough. I picked white because it looks really beautiful in white. I think the best way to add color might be to use a colored bulb inside. The LED buld is entirely user servicable. I am thinking around $100. A big part of cost is how many people are interested. I want to make them in the USA if I can, though it is possible I’ll make them in China if it is cost-prohibitive, as I have a friend with a ceramics studio there.

Super cool!

Thanks! It is a project that is more about fun than profit for me. I really do love Marvin (you can see why here: http://www.marvination.com/about/). That said, I need to get some critical mass of people on-board before I can buy the materials and get my ceramic-artist friends involved. Its funny - lots of non-Marvin people love the lamp, which was entirely unexpected! If you know anyone who might like a lamp, send them over to my form

Seriously cool! You should speak with 3DHubs about getting this in their “shop” as official Hubs merchandise - they may be able to assist with offsetting some initial costs?
