My Marvin is close to really great but he has eyelashes! See the circled area in the pic. I can’t seem to get rid of this. It’s mainly on the right side (my right, circled side).

Thanks for any suggestions.

PLA Crystal Blue, Flashforge Creator Pro 2016, using S3D

Temp 200 with active cooling

Speed 1000mm/min

Layer .2mm, 3 top/bottom, 2 shells, 20% infill

Watch the print as it’s depositing those layers. What’s happening there? Try reprinting the marvin with different parameters, starting from above the eyes (so you can see what’s going on when it’s printing those layers, and you’re not wasting time and filament on the legs/chin).

Chances are that on those overhangs, the plastic is curling up and being hit by the nozzle as it deposits the next layer. This is a tricky problem to solve, and is dependant on cooling/filament/slicing settings/head direction. Try changing to printing the inside perimeters first, adjust speeds, adjust cooling.

There isn’t a hard and fast rule that I know of for that artifact.

I can see what happens - this area is printed from left to right (counter clockwise movement of the print head around the Marvin).

It comes from behind, left to right, then makes this loop and it has no support and seems to have a bit to much overhang.

I appears that the filament just droops when deposited there since there is nothing to support it. I have cooled the print temp and slowed down but it still persists.

I will try to figure out how to print just the top part to test.

I am hoping that rotation of Marvin where he faces the fan nozzle might help.

I’m not sure what the parameter in Simplify3D is, but in Slic3r there’s a parameter called “Bridge Flow Ratio” which helps in this case. You can lower the extrusion rate when printing over air. This makes the filament stretch rather than droop.

Good luck sorting out the issue.
