This is my 1st 3d printer and I have many problems with this. I use the Repetier host for FELIXprinters v 1.0.6

1. The default settings do not work. I have tried slic3r and curaEngine and each of them are absolutely not suitable for my printer, can’t print even the simplest model.

2. My settings are a little not suitable. When I tried to improve the print quality, the first layer of the model was printed wavy lines (see photo)

Please, help me

Hello kRRRio, for me it looks like your z-height is too high. You can also see that the lines are not touching each other. Did you calibrate your z-height good enough. The distance between the bed and the extruder should be that it’s scratching a piece of plane paper but not tearing it.

Hi,

as i see this is the first layer, right?If you get it right the rest will be ok.

-first you should check if the belts on the printer are tightened,

-then the all important bed leveling, if the bed is not level you will get patches that dont stick well and your print is ruined from the start.

(wawyness look like the nozzle might be too close to bed so while moving it “scraped” already deposited material and it sticks to nozzle and then braeks off somwhere else this was happening to me as well).

also you could have an issue with the bed itself since it is corrugated aluminium plate,mine is uneven and impossible to level fully, so i look for flat patches where i do most of my printing.it works for smaller prints but problem for bigger ones.

-then set in slicer configuration -structures: set infil overlap to 10-15% to make sure infill bonds with edge

then try (if it is PLA) to set heatbed to 60C and reduce first layer speed to 60-70%.After first layer you can put it back to 100%.

Hi kRRRio, Sorry to hear your prints don’t come out as expected. Hopefully we can all help you to get much better results! As others have mentioned already, it looks like the Z calibration is a little off. As Mint_Design mentioned already, you should be that’s scratching a piece of paper. So you can feel a bit of pressure when moving the paper underneath the nozzle but not too much.

Also, just to make sure: could you please check the print temperature of the filament you are using? The wobbly effect and / or the holes in the print could also be caused because of using a too high print temperature. Lowering the temperature could be a good and simple test to see if the results improve.

Judging on how it looks, your heated bed is probably too hot and the bed is not leveled: the printhead is too high on some parts of the print.

reduced the z, added hairspray, and the quality was a little better, reduced the bed temperature to 60 (from 75) and still there are flaws ( for example model of knife kerambit, before printing I was used netfabb i printed on PLA 195 degrees on extruder and 60 on the bed, i buy this printer in Russia (terem.ru), it without the screen and sd-card slot, and it without a ceramic tube for extruder protection)

We are glad to hear the quality improved already! We usually print PLA at 55 degrees ourselves. Could you give that a try? Also: do you have a Kapton Sticker (looks brown) on your printer? If so, no hairspray should be needed when printing with PLA. Another solution that might improve the quality: it looks like the printer is extruding a lot of filament, perhaps that is why it is wobbly. Could you reduce the flow slightly and check if the results improve?

Try to make the first layer thicker, like 0.3mm. Try to print 0.2 mm layers (not 0.1mm). Try to print the first layer slow (33% speed).

I know that behavor just too well. What did I do ? Try leveling the bed as good as you can. It is very difficult because there are just 3 points to adjust (instead of all 4 corners). Find on Thingiverse the bed level stl for Felix. It helps you to identify where its too high or too low. My Aluminium bed is definitly uneven (a very little bit).
After (or while) that level the Z axle (as mentioned by others). Now, I know it´s hard to be patient, but it will help you to save filament and frustration if you lower the printing speed. Please try 30%. It will take like forever, but the slower the print is, the better the result is. My Felix 3.0 is also pulling a little bit too much filament, so I reduced to 98 % flow.
I print the first layer with 195 degrees, but then with only 185 degrees. 200 or more is absolutly no improvement.

I´ve seen that the model is quite big. Try something small (but flat) first, than something bigger and only if that worked for satisfaction print the big thing you have.

I think your problem is that your extrusion width is smaller than the nozzle diameter. It is better to start with the default setting of Slic3r and see how that is going. I always print my first layer 0.8 mm wide ,perimeters 0.48 and the infill 0.72 with a 0.35 nozzle. Because of the wide extrusion of the first layer the filament really gets squashed on to the bed.

This works fine on my Felix Pro 1, even though the bed is 0,05mm unflat.

Very useful comment @Vienna3DPrint! It is definitely true: calibrating the bed requires patience but it is more than worth it to prevent failed prints and to not waste any filament.

Just to make sure: it is very important to clean the bed properly before every print job with denatured alcohol. Not cleaning the print bed may lead to poor adhesion.

Also: thicker layers (standard 0.2mm layer height settings) will have better adhesion to the print bed than 0.05 mm layer height. It is perhaps worth trying to print with the standard settings to see how it goes!
