Hi,

I’m using one of the original wooden makerbot replicators with 2 extruders.

I’m having an issue that I’m hoping someone can shed light on.

When I switch it on the lcd screens lights up for a split second and then nothing.

Interestingly the light on the power supply then goes off until I unplug it and plug it back in again.

I’m a mechanical engineer not electronic so not sure where to start.

So to explain further, - I plug it in - the blue light on the power supply lights up - I switch the machine on using the button at the back and the lcd screens flashes for a second- the everything goes off including the light on the power supply.

Could this be a power supply problem or a mother board problem.

If anyone could point me in the right direction to getting it fixed I would be most greatful…

Thanks

Hugh

Generally this would indicate some type of short which is shutting the power supply down. Have you done any work on the printer recently?

If you feel capable you could open up the printer and disconnect the wires that come off the PS and go to the board then plug power in and power up and see if the PS stays on.

If it does then it is likely to not be the PS.

Hi and thanks for your reply.

The PS is soldered in on the pbb so that’s not reall possible. But we think the power supply is ok because it restarts itself after about a minute once plugged out of the machine.

What happened originally was that someone was cleaning out the extruders. When reassembling them one of the wires to the fans was squashed and short circuited. So this is indicating something on the board is broken.

Our engineer here is going to try trouble shoot the pcb on Thursday but he is not an expert in pcbs so any advice would be very welcome.

Cheers
