It was not your average British tech event…

…well close but minus the fancy dress!

‘Make In Britain’ was the opportunity to discuss the future of 3D printing, we saw how innovative British companies are already pushing and generating new trends using the technology. In the basement of historic and iconic Somerset House hides the very buzzing Makerversity our venue for the night, packed with 3D printers and excited 3D enthusiasts.

This community meet brought up topics of decentralised networks, localised and small-scale manufacture as the gateway to a future movement for global manufacture. It outlined a clear excitement for fellow hubbers to collaborate in order to push for this new paradigm.

After Cinter set the scene for a directed conversation, our speakers were able to really address important industry factors whilst also promoting their own ventures. Alex Berry from Sutrue hit us off with his suturing medical device benefitting from 3D printing both in metal and resin (he swears by Form-Labs). Stephen Lloyd then introduced the Strooder a consumer-ready filament extruder which challenges current conventions of filament supply and opens up possibilities for recyclability. Liviu from Altergaze rounded off the speaking element of the evening by letting the community get hands on a 3D printed virtual reality headset for smartphones and the developments that himself and his team are taking. The floor then opened up to discussion and questions. Tom Burt, a patent and trademark attorney answered any IP related questions.
