I’m hoping to print something that would be used as part of a punching bag (essentially an analogue of a human head and torso). So it would need to withstand some solid impacts, resist tearing, maintain its shape while being relatively soft.

I was thinking a porous flexible filament exterior printed over as ABS frame, but I’m new at this and certainly open to new ideas.

How big do you want this human head to be? We have formlabs flexible resin that’s soft but tough to a limit. Depending on the thickness

i’m looking for it to be roughly the size of a human head and upper torso. I’m not sure of the properties of your material, but it doesnt necessarily have to be printed over the rigid frame.

Hey @Greg_McBride, where exactly are you located? In this way, we can look for Hub in your area that can help with the print. Let me know.

Hey I’m in the Toronto area. Waterloo specifically.

Thanks, Greg. I added the Toronto tag to your thread, so that Hubs in your community be notified of your request. Hope this helps!

We can print as big as 6 X 5 X 5 so probably can print this for you. Just pop me a message of all the details. Sunshine Prototyping’s hub

Greg, I haven’t printed with it myself but ninja flex sounds like the medium that would work best. It gives a sturdy yet flexible part that has lots of give but retains its original shape. I have a hollow octopus model made of it a friend gave me. It has withstood a year of toddler torture tests even against the impact of a 5lb sledge with no visible signs of destruction. Another option is nylon weed eater line. It’s 1.75 diameter available at any hardware/big box store for cheap compared to other filaments. I have had decent results it seems to work with pla settings some fiddling with temperature settings to get it right is usually required. It doesn’t have the strength of ninja flex so a 2 material machine would be required for best results or print a cage and cover set up as you suggested in your post. Hope this helps. Cliff Cannon
