Need someone’s help that knows how to use the 3D printing widget that you can embed on your website. The instructions on the tread that was released about a year ago doesn’t seem complete.

So sorry to hear about this, @BuildTower! @Bram are you able to help? Thanks

Hey @BuildTower,

just to double check: this is the the Talk post you were referring to, right?

What informations are you missing?

Hello @FrancescoB,

I have been trying to insert the widget into my website with no success. The button show up invisible. When I use the power tools tab in my account the generated code from the tool seems to be invalid or is missing something? CSS? I’m not sure but the widget seemed to work for some but not others. @PolyPrototype had issues with this as well. @Filemon asked that you shoot him an email and he would explain what was going on. I emailed filemon but with no response. Wondering if anybody else knows what is going on?

Hey @BuildTower,

sorry to hear that you are having this problems. I checked the snippet in your Powertools and it looks fine. The problem might be there for different reasons. Let’s try to fix this! I have some questions for you to be able to help you:

  • What browser and what OS are you using?
  • Can you link to the website where the Order Widget button is currently embedded?

Hopefully I’ll have some more elements in order to help you fix this problem

Francesco

Hi @BuildTower,

Sorry for my delay. I forwarded your email to our devs but I understand they didn’t come back. Let’s see if we can solve with the help of Francesco here. Apologies.

Best,

Filemon

Hey @FrancescoB,

I am using Microsoft Edge for the browser and windows 10 for the OS. Is there a recommended browser or OS for the tool to generate correctly?

My site is www.3dbuildtower.com. I would like the button to go in the services page at the bottom. I’m uploading a new version of the html shortly, so you can look at it.

No worries @Filemon. It’s all good! Thanks for responding.

Hey @BuildTower,

nope, the widget should display correctly in every browser and for everyone. As you see it on 3D Hubs website, you should also be able to see it on your website. There’s probably something going wrong in the implementation.

Let me know when you put online the changes!

the changes are there now. I put the js portion of the code so you could actually see where the button is supposed to go. I simply copied and pasted the code from the powertool to my code. I replaced a pre existing button. I’m not sure what the problem is?

@BuildTower First of all, should I find it on the main page?

Are you copying and pasting the whole snippet as is? Are you pasting it inside the tags where the button is supposed to go? Because looking at your website source I can’t find any part of the snippet…

@FrancescoB I mentioned this on a earlier post. It was on the Service Page. I will move the widget to the front page once I get it working. I do have some knowledge of html and I know the button is supposed to me in the body of the website. I literally replaced a pre existing btn with this code from the powertool:

My 3D Hub

The reason I am questioning if the powertool is broken is because when I click “Link to my Hub on 3DHubs.com” I get this code:

My 3D Hub

There is no difference between the "Open a widget to order directly from my website " radio btn and “Link to my Hub on 3DHubs.com”. The code does not change to a basic link, that is why I think something is wrong with the powertool.

My bad @BuildTower, I missed that part!

The snippet should actually change slightly from one version to the other: the data-type attribute of the tag should change from orderWidget to hubLink depending on the selection. Can you double check if this really happens or there is some bug going on? It should work since I see the orderWidget version on your website.

In fact I checked the page on your website (the right one finally  ) and looking at the source I see that the tag in the HTML is missing (see attached screenshot). Everything’s in place, but the script is missing, resulting in the link not being turned in the actual widget.

For some reason at one point of the process of adding it to your website that part probably gets stripped out automatically. Can you check if my guess is right and how does that actually happen? Are you maybe using a CMS to update the content? (If you’re using Wordpress for example this might help)

Let me know if this helps and let’s hope to get it to work soon

Francesco

Its cool, @FrancescoB so the tag I moved to the header as a test, also it allow you to actually see the link. Though the styling is gone. If I put the script back the button will be invisible. I will do this so you can see what I mean. Next time you go to the site it will be back the way I copied it from the powertool.

I am used bootstrap to create the site which I don’t think would be the problem.

So…its working now. I was testing it offline before I uploaded it and the button was invisible I just reloaded in and its working! Thanks for helping be troubleshoot this problem.

I have one more question for you? I know 3DH has a feature that connects your Thingiverse items to your hub, How do I add that button to my things?

@BuildTower Happy to hear that now it’s working!

A few months ago we launched the collaboration with a selected number of designers on Thingiverse. If you would be interested in participating to this program in the future you can go to this page and leave your email so we can notify you when there will be updates

Cheers,

Francesco
