we specialize in printing small parts in our day to day but we’ve recently started thinking about how we can use our existing digital assets to make awesome large scale displays!!

we have a precision envisiontec and we’re thinking about investing in an envisiontec xede 3sp but we’re hoping to learn what we can about other peoples’ experiences (if anyone out here has one) and maybe find a partner with a 3sp size/quality print capability to try out some parts before we commit. anyone have any wisdom/thoughts or an xede we can print part on? thanks for your time!!

Out of curiosity, what would the advantage to a Xede 3SP be over something like a Fortus 450mc - is it mainly a case of accuracy? I don’t know much about the Envisiontec ranges. Do they only work with their proprietary materials - E-Clear 3SP, etc.?

hi thanks for your reply! we rely on envisiontec’s incredible smoothness and detail since our normal figures are ultra high detail 35mm. we’re starting to explore the world of large scale 3d printing but unlike the small scale stuff we’re not very familiar with the landscape. yes, envisiontec does have the limitation of proprietary materials but compared to our form 2 the results are significantly better at the small scale.

we’re looking to start making some prop sized stuff (we’d have a ton of ongoing work) and i’m just trying to explore what machines produce what kind of results. we have a xede 3sp sample and we love the quality and build envelope (20 x 20 x 20) so i’m trying to find something comparable just to understand what machines, materials and techniques exist at this scale. we’d love to see what the fortus 450mc can do.

Sounds interesting, I’ll have to get my hands on a sample to see what they’re like. Good luck
